The following is copied from Sandy’s online obituary and posted here for your convenience.
Sandy (Simon) deWaal passed away peacefully in High River Alberta, and met his Saviour and Lord on January 28, 2024.
He was pre-deceased by his wife Annette on February 4, 2022. He was born in Landsmeer Holland
on September 21, 1931 to Thomas and Hendrika deWaal, he was one of 14 children.
Sandy is survived by his five children and their spouses Tim (Susan), Tom (Gerri), Lance (Karen), Rita (Jeff) and Daryl (Shelly), his 15 grandchildren, Rebekah, Shelby, Elaine, Erika (Alex), Ed, Luke (Breanna), Rachel (Rob), Cody (April), Emma, Kyle, Elisabeth (Benny), Levi (Jenelle), Michaela, Danielle (Jon) and Jake (Becca). He is also survived by his 12 great grandchildren, Colton, Valencia, Lacey, Easton, Abel, Nick, Rachel, Hunter, Hendrix, Anders, Walter and Luna. Also survived by his sisters Margaret, Henrietta, and brothers Henry (Sharon) and Bill (Karen) in-laws Carol and Bob, Linda, Shelley, Ann, Len, Jack and Margaret, Elisabeth, and many nieces and nephews.
Sandy immigrated with his parents and some of his siblings to Canada in 1952. He met Annette, another Dutch immigrant, in 1953 and married her in February 1954 in High River. After spending time in the Yukon, they settled in Calgary, moving eventually to Dewinton and then back to High River a short time before Annette’s passing.
Sandy was a lifelong trucker, driving for others, driving for himself, owning Canyon Distributors, and then East West Express with his four sons. He never retired, going to the office most days up until the time he was hospitalized.
Sandy’s family would like to thank the High River Hospital staff for their care and kindness shown to him the
last month of his life, also Dr. Duffy for his care during his journey.
Sandy was bold in his Christian faith, sharing what Jesus had done for him to anyone, anywhere, making an
impact in the world around him. His love for the Doxology was a solid foundation for his faith and he would
never hesitate to sing it loudly and proudly:
Praise God, from whom all blessings flow;
Praise Him, all creatures here below;
Praise Him above, ye heav’nly host;
Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.
Amen.
